48: Margaret Webb

What’s next? Will you get faster, will you get stronger, or will you get both? Margaret Webb, author of Older, Faster, Stronger: What Women Runners Can Teach Us All About Living Younger, Longer, shares her fascinating research and own personal journey of dedicating a year to becoming super fit and strong. After hearing Margaret, you may just embark on your own year of giving yourself the gift of fitness.

Serena Marie, RD, comes on and busts a food myth that makes her batty. This one “drives her nuts”. It's all about Greek yogurt and why it may not be as good of a choice as we have been led to believe.

Nicole DeBoom, Ironman champion and CEO of Skirt Sports, shares the proper clothing to wear while exercising outdoors during those cold winter months. Let’s just say you need to have a beanie to wear on your head, multiple layers, and to have the most layering on your body where you hold the most fat. Nicole offers some great tips about what to do when it's slushy outside to protect yourself from the elements.

Our listener of the week is Tricia Murphy. We hear how Tricia’s running journey hasn’t only changed her life, but the people around her too.

Margaret and I discuss:

  • How she started running in her 40’s and why

  • How running took her out of a funk

  • Running a marathon and writing a book and what the two things have in common

  • The changes in her diet and how it affected her running

  • What happens when you stop exercising and how to look at it in another way

  • What VO2 max is and why we should care

  • Why spending time on the track isn’t just good for your running, but also other things in your life

  • How you can wait until you are sick or you can have a prevention team around you

  • What gift you can give yourself in 2015
