261: Leveraging Your Strengths During Challenging Times

Research shows that people’s anxiety levels and general feeling of overwhelm spike ahead of the holiday season. But fear not—there is something we can do to make the holidays brighter and make challenging times not so challenging.

This episode piggybacks a bit on episode 259, Overcome the Overwhelm, BUT you’ll still enjoy this episode even if you haven’t heard episode 259 yet.

I’ll discuss:

●      What Positive Psychology is and how the Values in Action Assessment (VIA)is Positive Psychology’s answer to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders —helping us focus on What’s Strong, not What’s Wrong

●      Updates in the latest version of the VIA—it’s now 96 questions instead of 240!

●      Why take the VIA (Hint: people who use their strengths are 18 times more likely to flourish)

●      How to apply your strengths in challenging times (holidays or otherwise)

●      Why using your strengths is good for others

●      Where you can find help during the holidays

I also share the experiment I’ll be conducting over Thanksgiving: Hosting a book club around Scott Adam’s latest book, “Loserthink: How Untrained Brains Are Ruining America.”
