282: Hope is a Muscle You Can Build

You know the song “Faith” by George Michael and how the chorus says

“Cause I gotta have faith

I gotta' have faith

Because I gotta have faith, faith, faith”?

What if you replace the word faith with hope?

Research shows that there is a correlation with people who have a higher level of hopefulness, have higher self-esteem, experience a greater frequency of positive emotions, and higher-level sense of control.

In today’s episode, you’ll hear how you can go about building your hope muscle, why it can make you feel better, how it will help you attain meaningful goals to you.

I’ll speak to:

·         What is hope and what is faith

·         How you can measure hope - the hope scale

·         What correlates for people with a lot of hope

·         Why you need a “GPA” in hope

·         What a “SMART” goal really looks like (according to Charlie Gilkey)

·         How to become more hopeful

·         The importance of detaching your identity from a goal

·         How to regroup when the goal is no longer realistic
