186: Engage Your Brain in Exercise

It’s so easy to get caught up in racking up the miles and forget to fit in strength training. If that sounds like you, and you need a little nudge to do some some strength training, then you’ll like today’s guest and author of July’s Book of the Month, Ageless Strength: Strong And Fit For a Lifetime, Jeff Horowitz.

Jeff and I discuss the following:

  • How and why a hyper competitive attorney from NYC practicing in DC went on to become a personal trainer

  • Why to be smarter rather than braver

  • How he determines obsessive running

  • What one of his favorite pieces of equipment you have at home is and why

  • What he wants to set the record straight on when it comes to lifting weights (he’s looking as us, ladies)

  • How he wants to raise his son in the hubbub of Washington, DC

  • Why he recommends focusing on improving and appreciation

Serena Marie, RD, and I chat about the power of having your “colors done” and then radically shift gears when she gets feisty about the requirements of a keto diet. Serena has seen some scary things working as a registered dietitian in the hospital and wants to make sure others don’t make the same mistakes that could lead to being admitted to the hospital.

I received a very special letter from a 61-year-old listener named Rose. She was denied the chance to donate blood, was out of breath and collapsed at a race finish line, and subsequently got a bone marrow biopsy. The biopsy confirmed a non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis.

You’ll hear how Rose used positive psychology and running to go into remission.
