220: Savoring Life on the Run

Can you believe it’s August 9 already?! Where is summer going? If you feel like time is flying by, then you’re going to like today’s “short run” episode.

I specifically discuss the following:

  • The research behind savoring and positive reminiscence

  • How these two scientifically based interventions lead to greater positive emotions including happiness, psychological well-being, self-esteem, and depression

  • How to tap into your five senses to expend time and savor an experience

  • How to bring back that “loving feeling” through sharing with others

  • How and why active, constructive responding can lead to deeper savoring

  • Why failing a number of times and then succeeding leads to higher serotonin levels

  • What specific things you can do to bring back positive running memories

The Runner of the Week, JJ Weisberg, shares the following:

  • Why she doesn’t wear a watch when running

  • How her mindset toward running has evolved

  • Why she facilitates and also participates in Flourishing Skills groups

If you feel like you’re running, running, and running, and your life seems to be slipping by, you may want to take a forced time-out.

My Flourishing Skills groups will give you an opportunity to learn the science of positive psychology and apply strategies in real time from the comfort of your own home. We’ll be meeting with kindred spirits via a free conferencing program called Zoom in September. The next group will run for ten weeks.
