156: Marine Corps Marathon and 10K Recap

It’s a “Reunion Day Episode” at The Running Lifestyle Show, when Nick D’Agostino (an Achilles International runner) and Kim Stemple (from We Finish Together) share their experiences running the 41st Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). Nick was on Episode 72 when he shared how running has helped his battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). You may have heard Kim Stemple when she was on Episodes 103 and 121 talking about We Finish Together and how she became an ultra marathoner. You’ll hear how being an Achilles International runner (a guide for a runner who has a physical challenge) or running for a soldier lost in combat could change your life. Kim shares how We Finish Together has grown like wildfire; it has fleets all over the world, including Singapore!

MCM race announcer, Ken Berger, shares how running an Ironman led him to becoming a race announcer. In addition to the MCM, he’s announced for many large races such as the AJC Peachtree Road Race, the Baltimore Running Festival Marathon, Virginia Maryland Triathlon Series, Army 10K, Virginia Beach Marathon, Cooper River Bridge Run, Fredrik Half Marathon, and the Napa Valley Marathon. He has also been an Olympics Commentator for wrestling at the past six Summer Olympics. Ken recommends how to create a playlist to get yourself in the right frame of mind, how to get a shout out at the finish line, and recaps his favorite memories of runners crossing the finish line.

Serena Marie, RD, talks about one of her favorite topics—oxidative stress for runners. The British Journal of Nutrition released some very interesting research showing how diet truly makes a difference for runners. To say Serena is excited about this topic is an understatement. If you’d like to check out the recipe that Serena discusses that she has used to fuel some very fast fall races, go HERE. (It includes Collagen Protein Powder.)
