213: How to Create Mental Space

It’s the final week of our special Mental Health Monday episodes dedicated to Mental Health Awareness Month! In this episode, I share the following:

  • How Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a Harvard-trained neuroanatomist, discovered that emotions go through us in 90 seconds and how her research came about

  • What to do with feelings that stick around after 90 seconds

  • How to be mindful of who you’re around

  • How journaling is one of the most powerful tools

  • Why clearing space can open you up to new ideas

  • How if you’re having a hard time, to reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255

  • Why to check out the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation that funds research on anxiety, autism, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, PTSD, OCD, and more

Do you feel like you have your best ideas and clarity when you’re out for a run, but you can’t always go for a run when the mood strikes? That was how I felt, especially after getting injured. So I enrolled in a 240-hour, intensive program dedicated to learning the tools and strategies based on science to flourish.

That’s why I’m dedicated to launching a Flourishing Skills group, where you can learn with a small group from the comfort of your own home.

We’ll be meeting with kindred spirits via a free conferencing program called Zoom. You need to register by Wednesday, May 30, 2018, to get in on the fun and connection. The nighttime (EDT) group begins on Monday, June 4, and the daytime group (EDT) commences on Thursday, June 7, 2018. They will run (pun intended) for six weeks.
