244: The Why and How of Creating a Runner’s Bucket List

Have you heard of a Bucket List before? Perhaps you have one. And/or perhaps you think it sounds kind of morbid. It’s not! It’s a great “GPS tool” to understand where you want to go, and to really dig in deep to discover what is meaningful to YOU. Not to what others think you should find meaningful, but you--aka The Most Important Person You Know.

On today’s short-run episode, I share the following:

  • The science behind why creating a bucket list leads to more meaning in your life

  • What is the Peak End rule

  • How to “Eat an Elephant” one bite at time

  • Questions to ask yourself so you REALLY REALLY fantasize

  • Why to look for patterns

  • Could this exercise be “screaming” what your values are

  • If you think you don’t have time to do this exercise, looking at it from a different mindset could make all the difference

  • Why this exercise is meant to guide and align, not to be another To Do list

The Runner/Athlete of the Week Ken Kopidlansky--also known as my dad--and I go for a walk on the beach and discuss:

  • One of the fastest growing sports in the U.S.

  • Why pickleball is a fantastic sport for longevity

  • Why biking gives him so much joy

  • The health complications he had in 2016 and how he bounced back just as healthy as before surgery

  • His favorite memories from being a spectator at the Marine Corp Marathon

  • Why my dad is a source of inspiration
