266: Your Year and Decade in Review

Party time for YOU!!! Grab a pen or pencil you like to write with, a cup of your favorite tea, a journal, a friend (or friends, or go solo!) and let’s get cracking! Use this time to honor what you’re proud of, the amazing experiences you’ve had, the little things and everything in between. It’s not all roses, so I’m going to talk about the thorns and how to look at them as lessons learned.

I’ll discuss:

·         Why you’re making time when you take time to reflect

·         Seeing your annual review as a “GPS” for your life

·         How to reconnect with friends and family during this process

·         Looking at your pictures for inspiration (even going back to 2010 if you can!)

·         Finding 50 things to be proud of: think about your health, personal development, family, interests, career, environment, creativity, curiosity, fitness

·         Why the power is in the small things—we think that it’s the big things that makes a difference, but science disagrees!

·         Learning moments/“aha!” moments

·         The questions to ask yourself as you reflect, including:

o   How have you become an even better person?

o   Who benefits from you being “you” in the world?

o   What doesn’t feel so good when you think about 2019? And do you feel that way because “society says” or is it really how you feel? Do you need to forgive yourself and/or others? Could writing a forgiveness letter help you?

o   Who has come into your life and what have they brought to you? As Charlie Gilkey, guest of Episode 252, asks: Are they mentors, peers, supporters, and/or benefactors?

o   What’s working for you?

o   How do you want to do better?

o   What and/or who do you want to bring into your life and why?

Wow, there are A LOT of questions here! Once again, I recommend grabbing a cozy beverage, a journal, some pens and pencils that are fun to write with and have at it! If you can do this activity with those you love, even better. And remember: it’s never too late to do this. You can do this any time of year! It’s like restarting your computer. :-)
