268: How to Create Your Annual Ta-Da List

This is the third installment of a three-part series dedicated to helping you create an intentional new year. The first episode was about reflecting on your 2019, last week’s episode was around creating a theme for the coming year, and this week is all about making a list of experiences you’re hoping to have. This list was inspired by the “19 for 2019” list Gretchen Rubin shared on her podcast.

On today’s episode, I’ll discuss:

  • The importance of looking back on your year to see what you want more of and what you want less of

  • How tapping into your theme can give you direction for the experiences you want to have

  • Why and how to be OK if you don’t do everything on your list—or want to do more!

  • How to involve your family or partner and how to create a list for the family, too

It’s fun to get ideas and inspiration around making your experiences happen, so please let me know what’s on your list! Here is my list of 20 things to experience in 2020. These are my own; my family has a separate list.

  1. Go to an Oprah event (hoping for Denver with Gayle King)

  2. Interview Oprah backstage after her event

  3. Attend a TEDx Talk

  4. Pitch a company to host their podcast

  5. Interview Tal Ben-Shahar again

  6. Interview John Ratey, M.D. again

  7. Create my own journal

  8. Take a class with Equinox’s 2018 Instructor of the year, Carol Ann Valentino

  9. Go paddleboarding with my husband on a beach vacation

  10. Attend an “Impractical Jokers” live show

  11. Take the Michael Port online CreativeLive course (I bought it years ago)

  12. Attend Camp is in Your Heart in Deckers, CO

  13. Catch up with 12 friends who I haven’t talked to in at least a year

  14. Create a Mentor/Guide Vision Board

  15. Attend an organized Peloton group weekend

  16. Figure out my thyroid

  17. Walk outside every day for at least 20 minutes (it’s OK not to do all 20 minutes in one go)

  18. Achieve 3000 hours of consuming Peloton content or riding on my Peloton while doing computer work (thank you SpinTray!)

  19. Join a local class (thinking of trying out a spiritual class)

  20. Write or coauthor a book

My theme for the year is self-compassion, so I’ll be using my self-compassion compass when organizing the above experiences.

What’s on your list? What’s your theme for the year? What revelations did you uncover about your 2019? Let me know by reaching out HERE, HERE and/or HERE!
